4. His favorite time of day is when daddy comes home

21. Sometimes he’s not very photogenic

22. Sometimes his chin quivers involuntarily…doesn’t have a thing to do with his body temperature

23. He loves being in his car seat…get him in the car/stroller and he can’t help but fall asleep

24. My cousin Samantha thought that he was having a seizure one day because he doesn’t have very good motor control of his arms…he’s still trying to figure out that they’re connected to his body

25. Sometimes when having ‘tummy time’ he just face-plants into the blanket and thrashes his face back and forth while screaming…

Sweet Sweet Baby

On Saturday my friend Paige came over and took over 200 pictures of Beckett. It was so much fun to be creative with the photography, however, Beckett wasn't super cooperative, and about 90% of the pictures were of him crying. (Although, some of them were pretty dang cute.) He was a doll for a few minutes though, and we got a few good ones. The best are being saved for his birth announcement that I'm designing right now. If any of you don't think I have your address, please leave me a comment with it. I'll be sure to send you one.
Beckett is doing so well and continues to be our sweet little bug. (Don't you just want to kiss those cheeks!)

My Little Bug...

I've had some requests for an update, so here are some random pictures that I've taken lately. I love my little bug. Usually the pictures I take are of him sleeping, cause he spends the majority of his time doing that, but the second picture is of him actually awake...just chillin in his little swing. He was being such a champ that day. I was working on a project that I'm doing for Carrie's wedding, and so I just sat him in that chair while I was working. He hung out there for a good 45 minutes, being so good until he finally fell asleep. What a sweetie.
Carrie and Nick came to town last weekend and we had a great time hanging out, getting to know Nick. He's a pretty hilarious guy. He and Nathan bonded instantly, and Carrie and I had an awesome time just being together. I miss her...she lives too far away. I'm so grateful that they made the effort to come here and see us. This picture is taken at Jack Sprats--where Rachell works.

My Chunky Monkey

I just had to post these pictures to show you all how 'well nourished' this little guy is. I love him so much!

Family

Well...I promised to post pictures of when the family was here. It was such a fun weekend, and I didn't want it to end. Beckett was so spoiled, being held almost every minute. It's a hard gig to keep up. Anyway, we had a great time together and I am so happy that everyone was able to meet Beckett. Tyler was so cute with Beckett. For those of you who haven't heard--he and Juliana are expecting their first at the end of August and he was so excited to have a baby to hold. He's going to be a great dad.
We had dinner with the whole family at Dan and Paula's and it was such a fun time to see everyone and enjoy our time all together. We couldn't have asked for better weather.
I loved to see Beth and Beckett together. I love my beautiful sister so much!
Nothing like seeing your daddy holding your baby. It was awesome. When he and Mom first showed up, he was so excited to see Beckett. His smile said it all...
Dillon was a little apprehensive about holding Beckett at first, but he did great! Also, to update you all, he just received his mission call this week. He will be serving in the Nirobe Kenya Mission. (can't spell that...sorry)
Michelle Thompson and Purple (aka Elizabeth). Peter and Michelle have been great friends to Nathan and I and we love spending time with them.
Finally-Grandma Hall. Beckett sure loves his Grandma. And I appreciate all of her time and energy helping me learn how to be a mom. It was great having her here twice.
So...there it is. Sorry about all the pictures. I love my family so much and it was wonderful to see them all and to spend a few days together.

Did you miss me?

The morning of the 29th (about 3:30am)

Is he asleep or awake?

"I'm hungry mom!"

Chilling on Dad's lap

Beckett is already so well mannered.

Finally I've got this whole mothering thing figured out well enough to find a few minutes to get back on this computer and let you know how I'm doing. It's been so long since I've published anything on here...Nathan has done a fabulous job of keeping everyone updated.
So...life is great! I love being a mom. It is the best job in the world. That may have something to do with the fact that I have a great baby who sleeps a lot and rarely fusses. He pretty much just sleeps and eats. But he is 'thriving'. His two week check up was on Wednesday and he now weighs in at 10Ibs 3oz, and is 23 inches long. He's in the 99th percentile for length.
My recovery has gone remarkably well...I remember sitting in the hospital the day after he was born thinking, 'man...how am I going to do this all by myself...I can't even get out of bed.' However, the body knows what it's doing, and a couple days after being home I was feeling like my normal self (with an extra few pounds added on). Every day gets better and we're getting into more of a routine as Beckett learns his nights from days.
It has been so great to have Rachell here. She is doing so well...has found two jobs and continues to amaze me with her independence. She is a very brave girl (she braved the student ward all by herself, walked around LA and found two jobs, and has made several friends already). She is also a great help to me. I appreciate all of her love and her support!
My whole family is in LA this weekend. Last night Tyler, Juliana, Beth and Dillon got here and Mom and Dad arrive tonight. I am so excited to have them here and I'll be sure to post some pictures of the weekend. I was so excited for them all to meet little Beckett, and right now I'm most excited to see my Daddy holding my baby.
Anyway, here are a few updated pictures for you all to see. I'm also including the one I took right before I delivered. This was the peak of my biggness...can you believe there is almost a 10 pounder in there!?!?!?

Bath time for Beckett

We took pictures of Beckett getting a bath Saturday night. His umbilical cord still hasn't fallen off, so he can't be submerged. He handled it pretty well until we had to clean out the fat rolls.

After the bath, we dressed him in this suit and hat to get him warmed up. Lindsay thought he looked like a sherpa.

Beckett is definitely putting on weight. He was single-chinned when he was born, and now there's a second one coming on. His two-week checkup is Wednesday.

The First Week

The New and Improved Roberts Family

It's almost been a week since little Beckett arrived, and it has been fabulous. I've been sleeping quite well, thank you, though I can't speak for Lindsay or Grandma Hall. I did take care of the little fellow last night, and was only up for about 45 minutes besides feedings. We have to confess that, against the advice of the experts, we kept Beckett in bed with us. He slept a lot better this way, but the real reason was my own selfishness. I miss the little guy! I went back to work Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and it was miserable to leave him.
Lindsay is recovering well. She is a great mom and has handled all of the changes happily. It's been a blessing to have Grandma Hall and Rachell here, and we are grateful for their willingness to help. Grandma Hall has been the chief night-time caregiver, allowing Lindsay to recover more quickly.

I've been staring at this picture all day at work. Lindsay took it this morning.

Baby Beckett

Nathan Beckett Roberts was born at 9:24 PM, January 29, 2007 at Cedar Sinai hospital in Beverly Hills. And it was awesome! He was born 9 lbs, 8 oz and 22 in long. We arrived at the hospital for the scheduled induction at 4:00am on the 29th. Lindsay already had contractions, but didn't realize it, and was dialated to 3 cm when we arrived. We were happy that the process had already started naturally. They gave her contraction-inducing drugs around 5am, and we moved into our labor room. It was a big private room, with a plasma screen and windows along one wall overlooking the Hollywood Hills. It took until around 2pm for the contractions to get bad enough to warrant an epidural, and after that, Lindsay was very comfortable. I love technology!

The epidural was turned off about 8:15 pm and Lindsay started pushing at about 8:45pm. Notwithstanding my disdain for seeing the insides of bodies on the outside, I watched the whole thing, from seeing a quarter-sized white spot that I was told was his head to watching the whole, naked, squirmy body come popping out. They almost fumbled the little guy.

We were blessed with a incident free delivery. Still, Lindsay was pretty exhausted, though she is recovering well. Now we're parents! Just like that. We love the little guy and are thankful the Lord has entrusted us with such a special spirit. Thank you for your prayers, phone calls/text messages and support.

I worked 104 hours this week.

I just wanted to yell it from the rooftops. But I didn't have a rooftop, I had this blog.

This week included a 40hr stretch, from Thursday morning until Friday night.

A few more pictures

On my birthday, my mom surprised me with this cute little chair. Her best friend (and my other mom) Cheryl bought us the lamp that matches Beckett’s crib set. So cute! I wasn’t expecting either at all, and I love what they both add to the room. We are really set now! I also wanted to just post this picture of our stroller/car seat set cause I think that they are so cute. (Who loves red, black and white?)

Also—just an update for all…Yes—I know it is my due date, and no I haven’t felt anything. We’ll be sure to let everyone know when ANYTHING happens! Thanks for all of the support, love and prayers...I need them!

My Top 10

Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Being Pregnant

  1. I get to feel him move
  2. I always have someone to hang out with—and he listens to whatever I have to say
  3. I don’t feel fat even though I have such a big belly
  4. There is always an excuse to take a nap
  5. I feel beautiful-even if I haven’t put on makeup in a week
  6. I always have an excuse not to participate (if I don’t feel like it)
  7. Everyone is so much nicer to me-it’s never as awkward in the elevator
  8. I can eat whatever I want (however this was only the case for half of my pregnancy)
  9. No one can get mad at me or bug me about being spacey (pregnancy brain)
  10. I love getting to know the little guy I’ve been hanging out with for the last 9 months

Even though I'm now to the point where I want to meet him and get the labor part of the equation over with, I really am going to miss being pregnant. I've had quite the amazing pregnancy...rarely feeling sick, not gaining an excessive amount of weight, and maintaining such a great lifestyle are all things that have made this pregnancy such a delight. I am totally excited for the next stage, but I know that I will miss these feelings (and his little movements) greatly. It has truly been a wonderful experience.

5 days till D-day

The countdown is on. 5 days till Beckett is due, and 7 until he has no choice in the matter :) Just wanted to post a couple of new pictures that Nathan took last night. Notice how I'm always in my PJs. Nothing fits anymore...

The other update for you all is that I received a very exciting document via the mail yesterday...my diploma!!! I was so excited about it last night that I had to take some pictures of both of them together. Yay...finally a college graduate.
So, my final doctors appointment is tomorrow and I'll be sure and let everyone know if I find out anything fun or exciting. Probably not though...I'm beginning to think this little guy wants to gestate forever.

Getting ready for baby...

Here are some shots of the baby room. We just got the last couple things this week and finally got it all assembled. We're pretty proud of our work and we had such a great time doing it together. Now all we need is a baby! Just as an update, I talked to my doctor this week and he is on vacation for a week(when I found that out I had a bit of a breakdown--), so if I go into labor before the 28th, I'll have whoever is on call in their office deliver. However, if I still haven't had him by the 29th, Dr. Ewertz will induce me. So, we'll for sure have a baby by the 29th. I am getting to the point where the anticipation is outweighing my fear, and I'm ready to get on with it!
